TITLE: 

School Head Nurse

 

QUALIFICATIONS:      

  1. Current unrestricted RN license from the state of Colorado
  2. Minimum one year of nursing experience (school nursing preferred)
  3. Communication skills
  4. Partnership building/teamwork skills
  5. Current CPR certification
  6. American Red Cross BCLS or American Heart Association Healthcare Provider
  7. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the board may find appropriate and acceptable

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear; and taste or smell.  The employee frequently is required to stand; sit; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.  The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability adjust focus. The employee is regularly required to compare, analyze, categorize, list, organize, summarize, and draw conclusions.

 

REPORTS TO:

Superintendent

           

JOB GOAL:     

To assist in providing the fullest possible educational opportunity for each district student by minimizing absence due to illness and creating a climate of health and well-being in district schools.

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  1. Supervises health aides at all buildings, ensuring all District and State regulations are being met.
  2. Works collaboratively with the district’s health and wellness committee and administrators in developing school health program.
  3. Participates in work of health curriculum committee, including aiding in the development and participation in activities that promote healthy lifestyles for school and community (dental month, hygiene, health classes and cholesterol screening).
  4. Coordinates school programs of immunization, physical examinations, and vision and hearing testing.
  5. Develop, review and sign care/action plans.
  6. Order District Health Office supplies:
    1. Order VSP forms for district.
    2. Order dental presentation supplies for Elementary school.
    3. Order stock EpiPens yearly.
  7. Train staff for medication administration, stock EpiPen, and treatments.
  8. Document screening, medication, and treatment information for triennial, initial, and re-evaluation IEP’s in Alpine.
  9. Attend 504/IEP meetings as needed.
  10. If never before take, the RN or parent must administer the first dose of a non-emergent medication.
  11. Supervise nursing students (if used).
  12. Input medications and treatments into the district’s Student Information System (SIS).
  13. Upload MD order forms into SIS.
  14. Schedule routine medications and treatments in SIS.
  15. Keep current on Colorado Department of Education regulations.
  16. Send yearly Health Office reports to CASN.

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:    

Salary:      Based upon the District’s adopted Nurse’s salary schedule. 

Work Schedule:      175 Days as designated by the annual adopted school calendar.

Benefits:      Sick and personal leave will be earned at the half-time rate.  No Health Insurance Benefits

Hours:      24 hours per week throughout the school year.

FLSA Status:      Exempt/Classified

 

EVALUATION:
