Assistant Cook

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Must have obtained a high school diploma or equivalent.
  2. Contribute to a positive work environment: Be a problem fixer – not a complainer
  3. Working knowledge of proper food preparation and serving is preferred, or must be willing to learn
  4. Must be able to lift 50 lbs or more repetitively.
  5. Ability to follow instructions given in an efficient and timely manner

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The work requires some heavy physical activity with lots of standing, and is performed in the kitchen of the schools.  Typical positions require workers to walk or stand for long periods; lift and carry up to 50 pounds; climb stairs; bend; reach; hold grasp and turn objects; and use fingers to operate kitchen equipment.

JOB GOAL:

It is the Food Service Departments goal to provide each student with food of high nutritious quality in an atmosphere of cleanliness, cheerfulness, and personal caring.

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Adheres to all health and safety regulations per State and Federal guidelines
  2. Maintains adherence to standardized recipes as directed by USDA regulations
  3. Learns computer program for meal service, can sub when necessary
  4. Uses proper serving utensils to ensure portion control
  5. Complete steps necessary to ensure areas are ready for meal service daily
  6. Communicates with Leak Cook regarding supplies needed
  7. Helps in all areas of kitchen when needed
  8. Reports any equipment malfunctions on a daily basis to ensure it operates safely
  9. Reports accidents immediately to Lead Cook
  10. Maintains confidentiality of students’ free and reduced status
  11. Answers phone and responds to the public in a pleasant and respectful manner, refers information request to the appropriate source as needed
  12. Completes professional growth activities as offered
  13. Demonstrates high job attendance rate and punctuality
  14. Completes role without close supervision
  15. Accepts suggestions and constructive criticism
  16. Maintains a clean and acceptable appearance.
  17. Performs other duties as assigned by lead cook or Food Service Director
  18. Conscious of self when serving and wearing gloves – don’t touch face, nose, hair, or mouth, etc.
  19. Contribute to a positive work environment
  20. Be a problem fixer – not a complainer
  21. Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Salary:        Based on Food Service Salary Schedule

Work Schedule:        Approximately 6 hours per day – As set by the Food Service Director following the school calendar

Benefits:        None

Hours:        7:30 am to 1:30 pm – depending upon position.

FLSA Status:        Non-Exempt/Classified
